Motorway Conditions of UseGeneral
The Cross City Tunnel is a motorway. No stopping or standing (with the exception of stopping in any emergency breakdown lanes) is allowed at any time within the Cross City Tunnel.
Please be considerate of any motorists changing lanes and any merging traffic.
Payment of a Toll
As the Cross City Tunnel is a fully electronic tollroad, each motorist must purchase an electronic pass or hold a toll account and have a valid electronic tag. There are no facilities provided within the Cross City Tunnel for the collection of tolls by cash or credit card. For further information, please refer to the Cross City Tunnel website at www.crosscity.com.au
Driving Through the CrossCity Tunnel without Paying the Toll
Cameras are stationed at each tolling point in the Cross City Tunnel. They photograph any vehicles that pass through tolling points without a valid tag.
All photographs are cross-checked against number plates registered with the Cross City Tunnel and/or other electronic pass issuers.
You may still register after passing a tolling point in the Cross City Tunnel provided that you register three days after your trip. For further information, please refer to Cross City Tunnel website at www.crosscity.com.au
Photographs of any vehicle that have used the Cross City Tunnel, that do not have a tag, that did not register their number plate prior to, or three days after, taking the trip will be sent to the RTA by CrossCity Motorway Pty Ltd for action. The RTA will send the motorists a letter asking them to pay the toll along with a $10 administration fee.
If the toll and administration fee are not paid, this matter maybe referred to the State Debt Recovery Office and this is likely to result in a fine and a loss of points on your licence.
CrossCity Motorway Pty Ltd will under certain circumstances refer any unpaid toll and associated fees and penalties to a debt collection service for recovery of the total amount owing. Referral to a debt collection service will result in additional costs being added to any amount owing.
Speed Restrictions
Please observe the variable speed limit signs that are posted in the tunnel. The speed limits may vary from time to time in response to tunnel conditions.
RTA speed cameras will be mounted at various locations in the Tunnel. Exceeding any speed limit will result in a fine and loss of points on your licence.
Please take care, particularly at entry and exit ramps to the Tunnel where traffic will merge.
